Visitor’s book

Accidents, breakages, spillages

  • We understand breakages happen, Glasses etc.. that’s life. Please let us know so we can replace it for your visit.  And to ensure  the next guest  has a full complement. Thanks
  • We also understand accidents happen, so if any spillages on carpets, or soft furnishings occur, we ask you not to attempt to clean them yourself. Often the material requires a specialist or dry cleaning method, so any attempt to  clean may result in a permanent stain. Please simply soak up the excess liquid and inform LC management straight away so if appropriate a professional cleaner can be arranged.

Bars and places to eat

  • During the summer they host various music nights – so worth checking out what’s on and when as they tend to be on different nights at different bars.
  • Little Fish Cafe – Summer only.
  • Olivers Seafood bar – Main place for a meal, nice atmosphere.
  • The Pier bar – Down by the Harbour
  • Newman’s Bar – has a facebook page that will provide latest status on whats on there . The music does not start until late – And you’ll find most people turn up not long before it does . So the place can look a bit empty early on in the evening  – You can always pop in and check with Richie – But if you turn up early you’ll have along wait,   be warned 🙂  Though the music is worth the wait.
  • Check out  Aughrus Peninsula.

Beaches

  • There are a number of beaches in the area,  all have their own unique vistas and are worth a visit. Beaches On Mainland – Cleggan
  • Omey Island is worth a visit – but check the tide tables so you don’t get caught out as the tides move in deceptively quick when they do. The rock pools are great for the Kids can be like small swimming pools. Warmed by the sun and sand in the summer.
  • Anchor beach is a wonderful place if you can get it to yourself and Rossadillisk is great to walk about and you can park up in a small space on the left opposite the house with all the fishing buoys. Don’t go beyond as a knight mare to turn around.
  • Please avoid washing sand off in the showers as this has previously blocked drainage.

CPR quick guide

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is an emergency medical Procedure for a victum of cardic arrest (Heart stopped) or in some circumstances, respiratory arrest (not breathing). There is a standard procedure that you must follow inorder to perform  CPR successfully.  CALL in the event of an accident, there may be victims that require CPR.  First and foremost call for the ambulance if this is the case, as the victim will most likely need medical attention. Remember in most locations the emergency dispatcher can assist you with CPR instructions. Before beginning CPR, check the victim for responsiveness.

Hands-only CPR

To Carry out a chest Compression:

Kneel next to the person and place the hell of your hand on the breastbone of their chest. Place the palm of our other hand on top of the hand that’s on their chest and interlock your fingers.

Position yourself so your shoulders are directly above your hands.

Using your body weight( not just your arms) press straight down by 5 to 6 cm (2 to 2.5 inches) on their chest.

Keeping your hands on their chest, release the compression and allow their chest to return to its original position.

Repeat these compressions at a rate of 100 to 120 times a minute until the ambulance arrives  or as long as you can.

Ferry to Inishbofin

Out to sea you can see Inishbofin, the you can catch the ferry from the harbour and runs a couple of times a day. Worth a visit on a nice day and experience some  beautiful walks. Grab a pint and a bite to eat before heading back.

Fire extinguishers

Fire Extinguishers are on site in the Utility room

First aid kit

First aid kit can be found in the utility room

Hair dryer

There is a hair dryer typically it can be found either in the family room or twin

Heating

The heating is on a timer for a few hours each morning and evening. If you feel you need a top up feel free to push the booster button in the hall. It goes up in Increments of an hour to a max of 3 hours. Or turn the dial to increase or reduce temperature.

Hot water

The water is also on a timer each day – However if you need a boost feel free to hit the boost button. Which again will boost in increments of 1hour up to 3 hours.

This can be found in the Tank cupboard( first door in your right down the hall)  on the wall to you right as you look at the tank.

Please DON’T use the immersion switch in the hall – unless there has been total failure of the boiler – Thank you

Keys

  • You get a set of keys for the house, from the key box on the side of the garage wall. Feel free to leave them there when you go out. So as to be sure you don’t lose them when you’re out for the day.  Or if you have members of your party going somewhere else for the day, and you may get back at different times.
  • The back door tends to be the main entrance for coming and going. As with the prevailing weather it’s  a lot easier to manage.  If the front door is left open on a breezy day internal doors do slam shut, and the internal glass ones can be prone to breaking panes.

Oven and hob

  • Oven is electric and pretty standard to use.  The Hob is bottled gas, you might have noticed it on your way in.  There should be sufficient gas. If it should run out there is a second bottle you can connect to. If not please reach out to your contact.
  • The manual for the oven is in the drawer next to the oven.

Power failure

  • The infrastructure when you this far west can be a bit susceptible to the extreme weather as power is carried in over head wires     This can result with the occasional power cut especially after a big storm .   You can check  in the fuse box, above the back door on your right,  especially if other items are on in the house and just lights or socket power has gone. If this does not bring power back or it keeps tripping please reach out to LC or the housekeeper .
  • Some torches can be found  in the cupboard under the microwave along with battery operated lamps.

Rubbish and recycling

  • Lets talk rubbish!!  Household waste needs to be divided:
  • General waste (non-recyclable waste such as leftover food). This is placed in Green bags.
  • Recyclable waste in the form of dry paper/cardboard, steel cans, and plastic, go into Blue bags
  • Aluminium (drinks cans, aluminium foil), and glass. These can be left by you, free of charge, in the recycling containers beside Sweeneys (Claddaghduff) or at the harbour (Cleggan).
  • If you staying for more than a week this may be helpful
  • There are bins in the utility area for the recycling items .

Sheep & Garden

We do ask you to close the gate. As open, sheep take it as an invitation to walk in, which in itself is not a problem, but just what they leave behind!!!  – even with the gate shut a few persistent ones find a way in, so feel free to escort them off the premises 🙂

The plot is boarded by a small stream running across the back and down the side. We have cut paths around the garden if you wish to stroll around or if the kids wish to run about. Just be careful of the stream in places as it is rocky. So we advise Children are supervised.    The house is built on rock so only the most stubborn of nature’s plants can hold on up here, so we’ve succumbed to nature and only hold it at bay as best we can.

Shops

  • The nearest shop is the Spar down in the village – it has most of life’s essentials; bread & wine.
  • Fish can be got from Kings of Connemara  found up the lane beside the Pier bar
  • Otherwise Clifden has a big selection of supermarkets and other shops

Shower pump

There is a pump that improves the water pressure. Please note that it is on a program so will not operate overnight from late in evening to early am – so as not to disturb you should someone make a bathroom visit during the night. During this time water will still flow but at a reduced rate.

Smoking

Guests of the stone house are politely reminded that there is a no smoking policy inside the house. And any cigarette butts in the exterior of the house should be picked up and disposed of safely prior to check out.   As the area around the house was subject to serious fire some years back. Thank you for your consideration.

Stop cock

In the event of a leak or escaping water, the water cock is located under the sink or if that is an issue , there is an external one under a cover outside the back door,  a bit in front  of the gas bottles . Please contact LC in any event

Stove

The stove is available for you to use.  If you just fancy the occasional  fire for atmosphere rather than heat. I would suggest  using prepack fire logs which can be gotten locally or in Clifden. They burn for 2+ hours, are easy to light etc.. Please ensure ashes are cold before disposal.  Please don’t leave the door open, other than when starting to light the fire. Once the fire is lit keep the door closed at all times.

Television & Music

  • The television is a ‘smart’ tv . It does have standard TV terrestrial stations BUT not many. You  are in the most westerly part of Europe and therefore getting a signal can be a challenge.  Feel free to logon with your own streaming accounts. BUT don’t forget to log out. It is your responsibility to do this.
  • If the TV fails to come on with the remote. Turn the TV off at the wall wait 10 secs then switch back on. This seems to do the trick. Its a sporadic and rare problem. And we found this solution out by accident. – We are monitoring it.
  • There is a bluetooth Music system in the front room –  which will connect to most BT devices. Hold the BT button until it flashes then search for it on your device

Things to do

Toilet

Like many houses in this area we have a private septic tank therefore  please don’t dispose of anything down the toilet other than the toilet paper.  Unfortunately when this advice has been ignored, it has led to expensive blockage removal.  Thankyou for your consideration.

Tumble dryer

The Dryer can be found in the utility. Please check instructions. And specifically check for ‘fluff ‘ build up on the filter  found in the door .

Walks

There are a number of walks close by if you don’t wish to drive and just stretch your legs.   There are three from the house:

  • The one down the road and left, takes you into Cloon Laghtanabba Bog, with barely a tree in sight. Worth a walk of an evening up the track.  People still have family peat cuts up there. And you will see the odd vehicle and person going up there. It’s not a circular route but worth a look nevertheless.
  • There is a circular route that takes you down to Cleggan beach. Turn right out of the house and just keep walking and take the 1st Left and you will end up down by the beach then along towards the Village  the left back to the house. Less than an hours walk.
  •  The Third is much like the second but miss the second left and keep going to the T junction turn left and the road will take you long by the beach towards the village, again take a left back up the hill to the house. This is a little over an hours walk

And it’s about a mile down to the Village

Washing machine

The washing machine can be found in the utility. Washing powder and detergent is not provided due to certain allergies

Wifi

  • The device is –     eir22787476
  • Password      –     CvVSTj3d87

Please note you are nearly at the furthest point west in Europe. And this quality of wifi is a relatively recent phenomenon 🙂  Therefore availability is subject to the weather and often other unknown factors.   If you have problems please be patient, Restart the router, it can be found up on the mezzanine. Easiest way of doing this is powering off at the wall, leaving for 10 secs then switching it back on.   If the problem persists, reach out to our contact. And we will endeavor to reach out to EIR the comms folk. But more often or not it does come back.
